Wednesday 07/05/08

Dear sir,

Please note the complaints as follows:

JM SD10/3 2-This light comes on and off. Something is not right. At 10.26pm now it is ok. It would go off later.

JM SD10/3 7-This is my 2nd complaint. My 1st feedback was given about 4-5 days ago but no action taken so far. This light has been spoil for some time ago.

The residents at Jalan Margosa SD10/3 would like all our lights to be lit during the nights. This is one way to deter mischief in our area.

Thank you in anticipation of your kind attention and prompt action.

This green island, like a boat, sways and rocks in the moonlight. Darling, you also float in the ocean of my heart. Let the melody of my song accompany the wind, breezing through your drawn curtains. Let my love go with the flowing water, my heart always pouring out to you. The palm tree's long shadow cannot hide my gentle love. The clear beauty of moonlight further brightens my heart. This green island night appears so peaceful. Darling, why do you go on silently, without words?

Driver killed in train crash

Driver killed in train crash

SEREMBAN: The driver of a Singapore-bound Ekspres Rakyat train was killed when the locomotive derailed near here yesterday.

Twelve of the train’s 210 passengers were injured in the 3.35pm incident, which occurred near Rahang New Village next to the Seremban-Tampin trunk road.

The locomotive and the first coach of the train, which had 12 coaches, jumped the rails and landed upside down in the mud next to the tracks.

Accident site: Rescue personnel helping some of the passengers out of the derailed Ekspres Rakyat train on the Seremban-Tampin trunk road near Seremban Saturday.

Two other coaches went off the tracks and rolled down a steep slope into Sungai Rahang, which flows parallel to the railway line. Three more coaches were also derailed.

The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) train had just left Seremban station when the incident happened.

State Fire and Rescue Department chief Salleh Sarbini said the driver, Yahaya Osman, 40, died on the spot.

“We had to dig him out as he was buried in the mud,” he said.

Injured passenger: Civil Defence personnel wheeling a female train passenger into the Tunku Ja’afar Hospital.

He said all passengers were evacuated within 30 minutes and those injured were sent to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (TJH) for treatment.

Passengers who were not injured were ferried on buses to the Tampin station 40km away where they boarded another train for Singapore.

Personnel from the Civil Defence Department, KTMB and motorists also helped out in the rescue work.

State police chief Datuk Osman Salleh said six of the 12 injured were Singaporeans.

Passenger evacuation: Some of the passengers leaving the crash site with their belongings. Passengers were later ferried on buses to the Tampin station where they boarded another train for Singapore.

“One female passenger was admitted to the TJH for back and neck injuries,” he said, adding that the others were given outpatient treatment.

KTMB managing director Datuk Mohd Salleh Abdullah, who was also at the scene, said it was too early to establish the cause of the derailment.

“We will certainly conduct a thorough investigation,” he said, adding that the driver had been with KTM for more than 20 years.

Salleh said it would take more than 24 hours to clear the tracks for train services to resume.

“In the meantime, we will ferry the south-bound passengers from Kuala Lumpur to Gemas and vice versa,” he said.

The area where the accident happened was low-lying and had suffered flash floods during the recent wet spell.

Earthworks are also being carried out nearby for the expansion of the Seremban-Tampin stretch as well as the building of a flyover.

I have always considered traveling by train is the safest way to get from one place to another without giving due concern for the longer travel time. However I need to rethink this opinion of mine in the light of the derailment of Ekspres Rakyat near Seremban on Saturday 2 May 2008. We were given to understand that "the driver of this south-bound train was killed while 12 passengers were injured in this incident" (Bernama).

A few questions crossed my mind:

  1. Since the commencement of rail transportation until now, how many occurrences of derailment? How about the losses of human lives and damage incurred resulting from these derailments?
  2. What were the causes of these derailments? It is important that the investigation reports must provdie some answers.
  3. Is preventive maintenance on rail tracks, etc put in place?
Safety of passengers must never be compromised at all cost.

Travellers impressed to see Lim flying economy class

Travellers impressed to see Lim flying economy class

PENANG: Some things have not changed with Lim Guan Eng, although he is now the Penang Chief Minister.

And among that is his penchant for economy class air travel.

As the chief executive of Penang, Lim is entitled to a business class seat but he is having none of it.

Ning posing with Lim at KLIA on Wednesday in a photo taken from Jolly's blog.

As travellers queued to get into the airplane, many are surprised to see Lim standing in line with them, just like in the days before the DAP wrested Penang from the Barisan Nasional in the March general election.

Among those who were surprised to see the Penang CM in economy class were songbird Ning Baizura and her manager Vernon Kedit Jolly, who were at KL International Airport last Wednesday.

Jolly was so moved that he wrote about it on his blog, which spurned off reactions among other bloggers.

Lim, who has adopted a “no formalities” approach since assuming the CM’s post, said he said he had told his staff to book him economy class tickets whenever he needed to fly.

“I hope to lead by example. If I can reach my destination and save some money at the same time, why not?” he asked.

That is not all. The Chief Minister also does not check into luxury-class rooms in hotels.

“I usually request for a room that is at least one level down from what I am accorded,” Lim said.

Jolly, who flew in First Class with Ning on that flight to Penang, said Lim had earned their deepest respects.

Are laws meant to be broken?

In another 12 years' time Malaysia would be a developed nation. As a citizen of the country, I should be very proud but I am not.

Having a developed country status will not amount to nothing if the citizens are not willing to change our mindsets to respect the laws of the country instead of breaching them.

This afternoon my wife and I and together with two other friends decided to go Dong Dong Restaurant or Acta Restaurant in Taman Desa Jaya for our lunch after our church service. By the way, Dong Dong (affectionately known to us) serves fairly good Fish Head Meehoon at about RM6.00 per bowl. Why don't you taste it for yourselves and give me the feedback.

As my friend was looking for a place to park his car, to my horror a car (I can't remember the model now but I know it as a big car) with the registration number: WQG 9455 was parked right at the junction. To me, this is a public display of arrogance with absolutely no regard for the traffic law in place. I just wondered how he could justify for his action! No available parking places? Not so. There were so many places to choose from. Most probably that was the most convenient place to park his big car. Malaysia boleh again...right? Will Malaysians ever change?

Perhaps when 1 January 2020 dawns, such people could have changed for the better, hopefully. Meanwhile shame on them who subscribe to the thinking that laws are meant to be broken, not to abide with.

眼淚為你流Tears Flow for You - 陳百強

眼淚為你流Tears Flow for You - 陳百強

Mouse loves big rice :

When one day I hear your voice
I have some special feeling
Let me always think, I don't wanna forget you.
I remember every day,
You are always on my mind.
Even though I just can't think about you...

If one day in the future,
this love will become true.
I will never change my mind and will love you forever.
I don't care how fool it is,
I will let my dream come true.
I will tell you something I wanna let you know, I let you know...

CHORUS:

I love you, loving you, as the mouse loves the rice.
Even if every day has a storm, I will always by your side.
I miss you, missing you
I don't care how hard it is,
I just want you to be happy;
Everything, I do it for you

The Streetlights in Bandar Sri Damansara need new pole numbers

Dear sir,

This is inform that the pole no. of most of our streetlights in Bandar Sri Damansara are either too blurred to be seen or they are covered by illegal postings of advertisements. It appears that TNB does not take action against such unscrupulous people. Why is that so?

As it is needful for us to give the pole(s) no. when we report faulty lights, we hope TNB will take the following actions:

(1) To remove all the indiscriminate advertisement which may be in the forms of signboards, 'banting' or posters, etc;

(2) To take appropriate actions against the perpetrators if they continue with their bad habits;

(3) To re-identify the pole numbers as was done in some parts of Bandar Sri Damansara by the posting of weather-proof stickers. They really look good, beautiful and lasting.

Thank you in anticipation of your attention and action.

Yours sincerely,

Lee Kim Seong

Note: This letter was sent to TNB via e-mail for their attention and action on 1 May 2008.
